I Will Live Forever... - By: DomitianX @ 8:53:10 AM [ Beer ]

The old advertising slogan "Guinness is Good for You" may be true after all, according to researchers. A pint of the black stuff a day may work as well as an aspirin to prevent heart clots that raise the risk of heart attacks. Drinking lager does not yield the same benefits, experts from University of Wisconsin told a conference in the US.

The Wisconsin team tested the health-giving properties of stout against lager by giving it to dogs who had narrowed arteries similar to those in heart disease. They found that those given the Guinness had reduced clotting activity in their blood, but not those given lager.

But...

A spokesman for Brewing Research International, which conducts research for the industry, said she would be "wary" of placing the health benefits of any alcohol brand above another.

She said: "We already know that most of the clotting effects are due to the alcohol itself, rather than any other ingredients. It is possible that there is an extra effect due to the antioxidants in Guinness - but I would like to see this research repeated."

Even though the research has been done and they have come to certain conclusions I plan to continue my own research.

Warsteiner Premiun Verum - By: DomitianX @ 7:57:56 PM [ Beer ]

I decided to try a new beer tonite. Since I never tried Warsteiner Premiun Verum before and I have been in an experimenting mood, I decided to pick up a six pack.

Boy do I regret that now.

Normally I dont really pay attention to things like aroma, but after I poured my first glass and I went to take the first drink, I couldnt help but take a wiff of the "aroma". It smelt like burnt rubber. Sort of like that smell when the belt on the vacuum cleaner locks up and begins to melt.

Horrid.

This is one I will never be buying again. I will have to finish the whole 6 pack of course, I just cant let beer go to waste. But I will not enjoy a single minute of it.

[strong]Budweiser Czechvar[/strong] (Bohemian Pilsener)

I *finally* found a local booze barn that sells Czechvar. I have never sampled before it but I have heard that it is very very good. And boy were they right. It has a nice clean flavor, not real heavy. Nice clean after taste. It also kept a good head too.

I read a few of the reviews on the web about Czechvar and most of them seem like they are coming from beer snobs or something. People that spend waaaay too much time smelling and agitiating beer instead of drinking it.

Its too bad that it has to be associated with Budweiser though. I have never been a fan of crappy American lagers. If I have to drink American beers I tend to stick with Sam Adams or if I really have to slum it, I go with Miller or Michelob. I really cant stand the flavor of Budweiser.

[strong]Paulaner Oktoberfest[/strong] (Oktoberfest/Märzen)

Another fine German beer. It has a flavor that reminded me of the Spaten Optimal but about half as sweet.

It has a very nice copper color to it with a decent head. I think is one the first märzen beers I have had, at least that I know of. I must say I am impressed.

I found lots of positive reviews on the web as well, but I usually take those with a grain of salt.

I would like to remind people that I really dont know what the hell I am talking about when it comes to "tasting" beer. I just go by what I like in a beer and my limited knowledge of the brewing process. I am just starting to figure out the difference bewteen Lagers, Pilsners, Stouts, etc. Everytime I try a new beer, I learn a little bit more. And trust me, I dont mind being schooled.

Mmmmm... Beeerrrrr..... - By: DomitianX @ 8:03:18 AM [ Beer ]

I do the occasional side jobs fixing computers for people and for some reason people really really like to pay with booze instead of cash. I can understand that though since a 12 pack of beer is much cheaper than the $50 an hour I would normally charge for side jobs.

I hacked apart and old HP the other day and stuffed it into another case and this is how I got paid.

Nothing wrong with that, but if I accepted beer as payment for all my side computer jobs, I would put Homer to shame.

Once you've had Sheaf you..... - By: DomitianX @ 8:58:23 AM [ Beer ]

At work we occasionally talk brew and one of my co-workers asked me if I have ever had Sheaf Stout. I told him that I had never tried it and he said he would pick me up a bottle some time.

Welp he did.

It's a very nice stout beer. Very similar to Guinness but it's not quite as bitter. I think I have found my second favorite beer. Now I just need to find a local bottle shop that carries it.

Also, I think I hyper-extended my wrist playing softball last night. I can barely use my left hand.

I feel like Bob Dole except it's my left hand and I am not an old fart like him either. I have been carrying a pencil around in my hand just to get the full experience though.

Famous Beer Quotes - By: DomitianX @ 4:05:41 PM [ Beer ]

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true
than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Its All About The Beer - By: DomitianX @ 12:43:32 PM [ Beer ]

I was perusing through some old archived interviews on Guitar.com and I found an old one of Zakk Wylde. I found his response to this question hilarious:

Guitar.com: Why didn’t you use a bass player on the album?

Wylde: It’s beer economics. With two guys and a case of beers, that’s twelve beers each. You get a bunch more guys there then you gotta start splitting shit up. If I was in Slipknot, I’d end up killing a couple of guys in the band.

It's all about the beer.
