iPhone Rolling Shutter at work

This is pretty cool. The iPhone shutter is not like a regular camera shutter, it uses a rolling shutter which causes cool visual effects like this…

iPhone location data visualized…

880 users donated the location data which was plotted to a map and this animation was created from it. Pretty damn cool..

Death Of A Tape Drive

Tape Drive: “Hi Boss, I would like to be cleaned today. Please feed me a cleaning tape. When I am done, I will be nice and shiney and ready to back up everything you got!”

ASUS EEE 1001PX & Ghost

We received a new shipment of EEE Netbooks for the new school year. Since they only seem to make each model for 2.8 days these are obviously different than the ones we got in last year. So my search for network drivers for Ghost begins. Ghost is a great tool for deploying computers, but making boot images is a PITA sometimes.

After trying every NDIS/Packet driver I could off of Asus’s website, I did some hardcore Googling for a few hours (and wasting at least a half a dozen CDs in the process) and I finally stumbled up-on a post on netbootdisk.com where someone was running into a similar issue with a 1008HA netbook. I downloaded the IMG file someone posted and created a new Ghost boot disk and multicast finally loaded.

Yay!

I normally wouldnt post about random tech stuff like this but I figure the more people that post about it, the better the Google results, the easier it is for the next guy to find the solution. If by chance that post happens to go away, feel free to email me and I will dig up the copy I downloaded.

I seem to be hungry…

Yesterday as we were driving into work I pulled up behind what had to be a bio-diesel car because the smell of french fries was very strong all of a sudden. I have watched a  few different Discovery/History Channel specials that talked about bio-diesel and its amazing what they can do with old grease from a deep fryer at McDonalds. If I had the space, the time and a diesel I would investigate it more.

There are lots of websites where people go into great detail about making their own bio-diesel. Amazing.

Apple Magic Trackpad….

Thinking about getting me one of these. It would be nice on my DAW desk where I have little room for a mouse because of the full size keyboard. I hate trackballs with a passion so this might be the next best thing. I might pick one up this week and give it a whirl. A mouse is a PITA to use on my desk the way it stands. I suppose I could get a new desk, but it would be cheaper to get this thing.

Santa Cruz/NHS iPhone Cases

If you are an iPhone r00b like me, and you skate, you might dig one of these cases. I suppose even if you dont skate and you rock the “indy” gear because the local Dumiez/PacNun carries it, then you might like these too.

They have a bunch of other ones too. I guess they are running a contest for the month of August where if you buy one of the cases, you get entered into a drawing for a SC complete skateboard.
